AM rode the el to O'Hare Airport to say a final farewell in the cheesy bar next to the guarded security entrance. He bought me a beer and we chatted about small things, leaning against one another and occationally kissing between sips. It was outside of character to not care about PDA, and we were drawing glances.

He said that if he didn't have a kid to take care of, I wouldn't be going to Scotland. "I would have found a way to keep u here," he said confidently.

I had to run to my gate in order to make the flight. My sister had kindly agreed to sit there with all our luggage as I spent a final 1/2 hour with my man.

And as I sit here, typing this at an internet cafe in Edinburgh, jet lagged, with no luggage which the airline misplaced, kicked out of the apartment because it wasn't ready when we arrived, and wanting nothing more than to lie down and sleep, I think about him and his last 3am visit to my apartment in Chicago yesterday morning.

I have never had a more compatible partner before. It will be interesting to see what the challenge of distance and time will do to our relationship. I envision us drifting apart, but he has a way of holding on tightly to the things he loves. "When I die, I will remember (our relationship) as one of the greatest moments of my life.", he said. I plan on seeing him and all the friends I've left behind in 3 months.
